"Welcome to Basic"- a video introduction to Basic LessonsJanuary 31, 2012 I just put up a "Welcome to Basic" video, for all the new members who are joining as relative beginners to the harmonica. It is a very helpful introduction to the harmonica and the Basic Lessons. I recommend that everyone just starting on the harp check it out. It is, of course, in the Basic Lessons category.

Mr. PC- John Coltrane minor key BluesJanuary 30, 2012 This is a great tune for Blues players trying to make the transition to playing Jazz, or Jazz players who want to play a great Blues tune. John Coltrane named this after Paul Chambers, the great bass player who played with him in Miles Davis' Quintet and on many of his own recordings. It is an "intermediate" tune, but to really play it right, Advanced technique is a big help.

"Offbeat Blues" - new Intermediate Harmonica LessonJanuary 14, 2012 New in Intermediate Harmonica, a bunch of very swinging blues licks starting on the offbeat, or upbeat. These will really give your playing an extra edge, and there is a PDF of them that I wrote out, which will make it easier for some of you to figure them out. I encourage learning "licks" by ear, but I one of my New Year's resolutions was to provide more PDF's for lessons. Give it a shot and send me a video, playing these licks or any others that you come up with.

Take the A TrainJanuary 10, 2012 Duke Ellington's theme song, written by Billy Strayhorn. This is a classic, a simple tune with a few harmonic and melodic twists and turns. The melody is playable on a C harp with Intermediate technique, but the lesson is in Advanced Harmonica because I also demonstrate it on G and F harps, which require overblowing. But this is a tune that you should all check out.

Silent NightDecember 21, 2011 In the Intermediate lessons, you will find a lesson on "Silent Night" for G, C, and D harps. It is easily played on a G harp in first position, needs some overblows to play on a C harp or D harp. This is a beautiful tune that goes with the season, and it is Austrian, not Swiss- my mistake!
